A famous designer once said ‘less is more’. And this definitely applies to our new minimal concept design for Neal’s Yard Remedies, which makes the product the standout hero.
Though of course less doesn’t mean easy. Minimal design involves a lot of tricky detailing behind the scenes to create those clean lines. We think the result shows that its worth it!
The Brief: To streamline the store look & feel whilst still enabling customers to easily navigate the 1500 SKUs. The Challenge: To reduce the cost of the overall shopfit whilst still maintaining a high end quality to the materials.
The new design reduces CapEx on joinery production and focuses on using quality materials at product level with more cost effective high performance materials at low level.
We are delighted that the new concept design will be rolled out to all future Neal’s Yard Remedies refurbishments and future new stores.

Brook House is a pub/restaurant in a fabulous Edwardian building in Fulham, South West London. The design brief was to create faded grandeur with elements of green. However, all the original period features of the building interior had been stripped out to a bare shell so Brace Studio had the challenge of creating an authentic period feel from scratch. The final design includes crumbling plaster walls, exposed brick, coffered corniced ceilings, luxury green booths, distressed wall panelling, antiqued mirrors and a centrally positioned tree.

Finalist at the NACS International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award 2019!
SPAR Ireland requested a new design for their investment of €25million in refurbishments across its store network. And what we delivered is a ‘game changer’ according to their chief executive.
The flagship at Millennium Walkway, Dublin is a ‘lifestyle’ store focusing on food service with a small grocery & off licence area to the rear. The requirement was for the store to include many in-house food service brands alongside concessions, which presented the challenge of how to create a cohesive design with so many different brands involved. We focused on the SPAR Ireland strapline of ‘Under The Tree’ and developed branch like ceiling rafts as an umbrella to tie all the food service brands together.
A neutral palette of concrete floor and grey walls allowed the red brand colour highlights to stand out such as a red patterned aisle walkway and subtle details such as red table legs. The introduction of timber to both the interior and exterior focuses on SPAR’s natural & fresh offer, while apex shaped fixtures hint at the canopy shelter provided ‘Under The Tree’.
Brace Studio worked with SPAR International to produce the new concept of look & feel, fixture design, signage design, visualisations and finishes, furniture & fittings specifications. Detailing and implementation were carried out by the SPAR Ireland inhouse team. We have consequently assisted SPAR Ireland with how to implement this new concept to different store formats.

This was not an easy brief!
The requirements were to create an omni-directional two man kiosk with an additional retractable DDA service point, in a 3 square metre area, with high level self supporting signage at 3 metres above floor level, while allowing sight lines through to the surrounding airport spaces and with a rate board at customer eye level.
We’re thrilled that the resulting design has been so well received:
“This latest addition to the award winning suite of ICE units continues to push the bounds of being visually impressive and category defining.”
- Rawls & Co, Design Managers for London Luton Airport Development
“Brilliant, a well designed kiosk is such a rarity! Clever and impactful design that doesn’t block any sightlines.”
- Dominika Wiecha, Retail Design & Delivery Manager, Beyond Communications
Brace Studio provided a full design service, with many renditions of the design in order to pass the airport’s strict approval criteria. We were assisted in the structural detailing by the shopfitter Datum Contracts.

Winner of the Creative Retail Award - Best Use of Surfaces/Finishes in Store 2018!
We were delighted to be selected by ICE to design their global flagship branch and even further delighted when our design won the Creative Retail Award 2018 for ‘Best Use of Surfaces / Finishes in a Store. We installed a bespoke faceted cladding to the external walls to provide a 3-dimensional quality to the 120 sq metre curved unit. This faceted surface creates a fabulous backdrop for signage and is a dramatically stark contrast to the the crisp white centrally positioned counter area which is flanked at either side by full height led illuminated white glass panels. The overall result is of a sleek glowing curve which represents the ICE brand’s ethos of a sleek global operation.

Fashion designer Nigel Hall wanted to rid his Soho and Covent Garden stores of existing vintage units and industrial style and create a clean new look. Our concepts for this high end fashion brand include bespoke angled hanging rails and furniture with a 1950s flavour to show off the classic menswear designs. Furniture designer Claire Darwent collaborated on the development of the fixturing.
Brace Studio have completed 7 designs for ICE at London Luton Airport. Each design is individual in form whilst retaining a connection to each of the other units through materiality and colour. This particular design has a striking dark blue glass shopfront with dynamic angles which are enhanced with integrated LED lighting strips behind the glass. Concealed illumination throughout the unit in both blue and white creates a glowing, sleek and modern design.
